Ingrown Nails

Ingrown toenails are a very common condition in which the corner or side of a toenail grows into the soft flesh bordering the nail. The condition can cause pain, inflammation to the skin, swelling, and sometimes a soft tissue infection. Ingrown toenails usually affect the big toe nail.

It is not advised to remove ingrown toenails on your own, due to improper technique and non-sterile tools. Removing an ingrown toenail on your own can cause irreparable damage to the nail and/or infection. If the pain becomes persistent or severe it is time to make an appointment with a Doctor who is proficient in removing ingrown nails.  While waiting to see a healthcare professional you can take safe steps to relieve your pain and discomfort such as removing pressure or tight fitting socks and shoes.

If you have diabetes or another condition that causes poor blood flow to your feet, you're at greater risk of complications from ingrown toenail removal and should only seek treatment from a Doctor.
